Allow time for the journey in both directions

Secret Beach is on the western side of Ambergris Caye. Belize’s tourism board describes it as roughly a 40-minute cart ride from San Pedro. Use that as a rough planning reference, not a guaranteed arrival time: your starting point, stops, weather and road conditions can change the journey.

Plan the return before leaving San Pedro. A beach day should include time to get there, time at the beach and a margin for the journey back. Check the opening times of places you want to visit directly, and avoid fitting a long outing tightly against a departing flight, ferry or cart-return appointment.

Ask Rio about today’s route and conditions

Before setting out, ask Rio which route to use and whether conditions suit your rental that day. Rough or unpaved stretches need a slower pace, and rain can change the trip. A line on a mapping app does not establish that a road, track or beach access is appropriate for the cart.

Keep useful directions or an offline map and charge your phone. Prefer daylight travel where possible. The UK’s Belize travel advice highlights road-surface, lighting and weather risks; use that general caution alongside current local advice. This guide does not promise access to every road or authorize driving off designated routes.

Check fuel, passengers and what to bring

Check the fuel level with Rio before a longer outing and ask about your route. Do not infer a cart’s driving range from the photograph or assume there will be a convenient fuel stop whenever you need one.

Choose a seat for everyone and keep luggage secure without obstructing the controls or driver. A four-seater accommodates up to four passengers and a six-seater up to six, including children.

  • Drinking water, sun protection and a towel.
  • A charged phone, useful directions and a way to keep the phone dry.
  • Your valid driver’s licence and Rio’s contact details.
  • Enough time for a slower return if conditions change.

Keep the return flexible, but agreed

Work backward from the agreed cart-return time. If you also have a ferry or flight that day, allow time for the cart handover as well as your onward check-in. A rough travel-time estimate should not be your only margin.

Contact Rio before the return time if a delay affects your rental or you need an extension. Extra time needs an agreed price and approval. Return the cart with the same fuel level as at pickup. If weather or road conditions make the outing unsuitable, ask the team about another plan rather than forcing the journey.

Choose the rental around your day

You can request daily or weekly periods using your actual San Pedro pickup and return times. Compare the base rental, then review the full quote shown after your request. Required charges apply; accepting the full quote confirms the reservation. Pay the accepted total at pickup.
