A LITTLE LOCAL KNOW-HOW

Do You Need a Golf Cart for a San Pedro Stay?

You may not need a golf cart for every San Pedro stay. Compare your hotel location, outings, group and luggage before choosing walking, a cart or arranged rides.

Do you need a cart for the whole trip?

No. Start with where you are staying and the places you want to visit. Walking may suit a stay with nearby meals and activities. A cart can be useful for repeated outings on your own schedule. An arranged ride may be simpler for one journey or a day when nobody wants to drive.

Make that choice separately for arrival, ordinary days and any longer outing. One transport option does not have to cover your entire visit to Ambergris Caye.

What should you check about your accommodation?

Ask your host for the property’s exact location and its usual road access. “San Pedro” in an address does not tell you whether the restaurants, shops or meeting docks on your list are close to your room. Check the route from the actual entrance, rather than judging only by a map pin.

Ask whether the property offers transport, where guests can leave a cart and whether gates or reception hours affect an early departure. Those answers can change how many rental days you need.

When could walking cover your plans?

Walking is worth considering when your planned stops are clustered around your accommodation and everyone is comfortable with the route. Ask your host about the walk itself, including crossings, surfaces and the return after dinner. A short-looking line on a map is not a check of pedestrian access.

Think about heat, rain, bags and individual mobility needs. You can plan some days on foot and arrange transport for a separate outing, instead of keeping a cart parked throughout the stay.

When does a golf cart make more sense?

A cart may suit several outings between your accommodation, meals and island stops, especially when your group wants to set its own departure times. Write down the trips you expect to make each day. A full day on a boat tour may need only transport to the meeting dock, while another day could involve several separate drives.

For a Secret Beach outing, ask about the current route and conditions from your accommodation before deciding. Do not assume every route has the same surface or takes the same time.

When is an arranged ride the easier choice?

Consider a taxi, accommodation transfer or operator-arranged pickup for a single journey, a group that prefers not to drive, or an outing with transport already included. Confirm the pickup point, price, passenger capacity and return arrangement directly with the provider. Do not assume a vehicle will be waiting when you finish.

Before renting just to reach a tour, ask the tour operator whether it already collects guests from your property or a nearby agreed point. Compare that complete arrangement with keeping a cart for the day.

How do passengers, bags and driving change the choice?

Count every person, including children, when comparing Rio’s four-seat and six-seat categories. Seats are for passengers; they are not a promise of suitcase space. Tell Rio your people and bag counts, and discuss access needs before choosing a cart or planning an arrival transfer.

Check who will drive and Rio’s rental requirements before sending a request. Bring the required valid driver’s licence and carry it when driving. If nobody in the group can or wants to drive, plan another form of transport.

What should you compare before requesting dates?

Compare the total for the rental period you will use with the complete cost of your alternative rides. Include the practical return plan and any transport already provided by your accommodation or tour. Check the current weather forecast before fixing outdoor plans, and leave room to change an outing.

Rio’s displayed rates are base rental. After a request, review the full quote, including required charges, and accept it to confirm. The private emailed link also lets you return to that quote. Payment is due at pickup.
